The following works for women of all ages and body types
LADIES
Capes and Ponchos- Any size, length or color.
Loafer heels- These are a throwback to the ‘70s but they look great with pants or dresses. Any heel height is right on.
Color - Mustard, rust, jade green. In short, jewel tones. A sign the economy is looking up when fall fashion includes color. No longer in mourning, as in years past when grays, black and browns were the hues of the season.
Day dresses – These are great-fitting dresses that can go from office to after-hours. A wise purchase because they offer lots of versatility.
Bright colored pants and denim – (I’m not sold on this one personally but it is what it is), make sure the pants really flatter you or that you’re okay with accentuating your lower half because that is the first thing people will notice.
Extreme cuts in clothes – To-the-floor length skirts, wide batwing sleeves, super slim pants. When wearing something unstructured or boxy, make sure you balance it by wearing something fitted elsewhere on the body. For example, a poncho on top, with skinny jeans on the bottom.
Belt – Belt everything; blazers, dresses, vests!
GENTLEMEN:
Slim fit casual pants - Khakis, cords, trousers. They don’t have to be skin tight, just nice fitting and not sloppy.
Slim cut cardigans – We’re not talking something Mr. Rogers used to sport. These are more light weight and cut closer to the body, less boxy. They can be worn alone over a shirt or under a sport coat.
Striped button-up shirts – Lots of guys wonder what’s mainstream for each season; stripes? Plaids? If you own a striped shirt, any size stripe, you can’t make a mistake because it’s conservative and conservative tends to be more timeless and classic.
Sport coat (fall staple for sure) – Don’t lose sleep over what color or style, just get one that fits well and flatters. It can be wool, tweed, plaid or plain it really doesn’t matter. And wearing one always trumps not wearing one because it’s a Power Piece. Meaning you make a lasting impression when you wear it.
Slim fit denim – Any color, wash, holes or no holes is good but the key here is to have a pair that flatters. Make sure they’re long enough, but not too long in the length, (if they drag on the floor in the back that’s too long). And for gosh sakes, don’t choose a pair that has long back pockets. Your bum will look long and saggy.
